At the early age of one year and nine months, Karelys Bonilla was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma, a malignant tumor of the retina.  This devastating disease may develop into multiple tumors in the eyes while spreading to other parts of the body.

“My daughter was always happy, smiling and playing.  I never imagined that there could be something wrong with her,” said Karelys’ mother, Ederlinda.  “One day while I was bathing her, I noticed she had a white spot in the pupil of her right eye.”   From this moment on, the lives of Karelys and her parents changed forever.  Her parents know that Karelys is fighting a deadly disease.

Currently, Karelys undergoes chemotherapy treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital where she also receives laser treatment in her eyes.  For this beautiful child and her parents, this stage of their lives has become a struggle, in which their faith in God and hope are their biggest support.

For Karelys’ parents, the opportunity to have their daughter receive treatment at St. Jude is a blessing. According to Ederlinda, “having arrived in this hospital is like receiving a ray of light in the darkest night”.  Thanks to the donations of generous people like you, Karelys has the hope of winning her fight against cancer.  Please send your monthly donation today.
